Amanda Morton

Director, Grand Rapids Film Festival

Amanda Morton revitalized the Grand Rapids Film Festival, which was on the verge of closing, by courageously stepping into the role of director. She felt compelled to provide local filmmakers with a platform and ensure a diverse creative space. Among the biggest challenges she faces are securing consistent funding and expanding her team with more board members and volunteers. The festival's first in-person 24-hour microfilm challenge after COVID reassured her that they were on the right path, showcasing participants ranging from a six-year-old to seasoned filmmakers. Author & Filmmaker

I recently released my debut novel, Shaylah Marston and the Rogue Roots, a long-time passion project. I joined the Film & Media Alliance WM to leverage its network and resources, helping bring my book to life. After attending Tamarra’s Grant Writing Workshop, I was inspired by her leadership as a woman of color in a groundbreaking organization. Tamarra’s expertise in executive production and her dedication to empowering BIPOC creatives deeply resonated with me. I’m grateful for my journey so far and excited about the future of this project and others on the horizon. It’s go time!

Michigan Multimedia Jobs Act

But our work is more than legislative policy—it is the heartbeat of our community. Together, we have built a network of creators, collaborators, and storytellers who inspire hope and action. Let’s continue to do what we do best: creating, advocating, and bringing people together through the power of film and media. Our commitment to fostering this artistry has remained steadfast, even during uncertain times. We will continue to promote and advocate for legislative initiatives that acknowledge our value to the creative economy.
